[WTA] Where to buy sewing patterns?

Postby Riko on 24 Jan 2010 22:49

Hi there~

I am on the hunt for sewing patterns (such as Buttericks and Simplicity's ) and would like to ask if you know where to buy it in Malaysia....

Yeah..i m sick of drafting my own sewing patterns LOL

I was digressing..haha..

Anyway.....the last place I saw selling such patterns was in Australia and I cant seem to find it in Malaysia @__@

I tried asking many haberdashery/textile shops and the shop owners gave me blank looks >.<

I am aware that you can buy it online but I would like to know if there's a shop/distributor in Malaysia tat sells them.....

Many thanks :)

yala...so hard to find, right?? X____X

i saw once at the patterns-fashion section at....omg forgot where la. it's at a big bookshop. Maybe Borders at the Curve/TS or MPH midvalley. But it was so muntah darah expensive agagagaga~

Cosmode has patterns too...but it's limited to a few per issue. So have to flip through. They have the pattern compilation issue (side A n B) too but they only show it small small the size....so have to draft big ones according to their instructions la.

I do have Simplicity's 4940, cost me 85 ringgit in total.

I went broke for 2 months...

At the moment I don't really know where to buy, but if you have a paypal account, the cosplay community at livejournal sells patterns for cheap prices.

EDIT: Here's one:http://cl-sales.livejournal.com/2820.html

Yeah..i decided to use proper sewing patterns this time cuz each time i draft my own patterns, i ended up making expensive mistakes in measurements AND had to repair the damage....like my Megumi's michiyuki length @__@

sky_pegasus>> OMG....i didnt know it's THAT expensive @___@ I will try to hunt it the next time i come down to KL...thanks for the tips! Hmmm.....cosmode....maybe i should give it a try~ Though I doubt i could understand their instructions cuz it'll be Japanese >.<

Raven_lady951>> OOOooo....Arwen's type of dresses ;) OMG...the pattern costs a BOMB @__@....Gambatte in sewing it though! XD Thanks for the link :)

OMG!

That pattern only cost like less than SGD20 here in Singapore I think. Then again, I always buy my patterns when Spotlight here in Singapore having it on sale so dun pay more than SGD12 for it (I usually aim for 50% Off or Buy 1 Get 1 Free Sale, with my Spotlight Members 10% Off Additional Discount).

Seriously, if the pattern is available under the Australian Distributor (sold thru Spotlight), you can try getting someone in Singapore to get it for you come worse. Best if when the Brand is on "Sale" which ranges in type of sale and brand from month to month.
Am sure the postage won't cost more than a few RM.

Ya, I got like 2 A4 Paper Boxes (and Bursting!) of those Patterns, mostly McCall's and Simplicity bought throughout the years tho' only used like a very few of them.
Rest I bought cause they looked like can be used or recommended for LOTR or SW etc costumes. :P

If you do, you can carefully take out the seams and Volia! You have a sewing pattern!

Haldir- Whut?! Oh well, what is done is done

Haldir>> YEAH!! Spore is a heaven for cosplayers....especially wen u guys have Spotlight there...i bought my only sewing pattern for a barmaid dress (meant to modify it into a lolita dress LOL) from Spotlight in Australia ages ago and i remember it costed me like AUD$15 (i cant remember the exact price but it's around tat price)...the price for ONE sewing pattern here would have set me back like RM80-90 @___@

I tried asking my Sporean fren for help but cant seem to get any concrete reply from her >.< ....gosh...i envy your collection of sewing patterns...i'd be lucky if i could find one at a reasonable price here....according to my mum, it used to be on sale here during her student days but after ppl started buying their clothes instead of sewing it themselves, sewing patterns become extinct in Msia, so to speak :(

Raven_lady951>> Haha..yeah..all my DIY cosplay costumes' sewing pattern (except my Klan ones) were DIY-ed by tracing the pattern of an existing, similar-looking outfit. For example, I traced the pattern of hito's football jersey (forgot which team liao LOL) to get the sewing patterns for her Jubei's top. ..haha....it's very rudimentary method of doing it but it works LOL ...For kimonos and hakamas, I drafted it out based on online tutorials

I have given up hope of finding such patterns in Msia, so i guess i still have to DIY my sewing patterns till i could go to Spotlight in Spore....
